How Does Microneedling Work?

Microneedling works by creating tiny, controlled microchannels in the skin. This triggers the skin’s natural repair process and stimulates the production of new collagen, which can gradually improve the way the skin looks and feels. The microchannels can also help selected topical ingredients penetrate the skin more effectively.

This means microneedling can be used for several different concerns, including:

• Uneven skin texture
• Reduced firmness
• Fine lines and wrinkles
• Acne marks and scars
• Uneven skin tone

Microneedling can also be used on the scalp as part of a protocol designed to stimulate hair growth.

However, not every concern should be treated in exactly the same way. Sensitive skin may need a gentler approach, while more established acne scarring may require greater stimulation. Treating the scalp also has a very different objective from improving facial texture.

This is where the technology used to perform microneedling can make a difference.

What Is Different About Mesoestetic axion Microneedling?

The main difference is that axion combines three elements within the same treatment:

1. Microneedling creates controlled microchannels in the skin.
2. Automated dispensing delivers the selected professional solution while those microchannels are being created.
3. 630 nm red LED light works at the same time to support the skin’s natural repair processes and help reduce inflammation.

The automated delivery is particularly interesting. With axion, we are not simply microneedling the skin and applying a product afterwards. The device dispenses the selected professional solution as the microchannels are being created.

This brings the microneedling and product-delivery stages together, while also incorporating red LED light into the treatment. Rather than three separate steps, they can work simultaneously.

For us, this is one of the most useful differences between axion and more conventional microneedling. It gives us greater control over both the stimulation we create and the professional solution being delivered during treatment.

What Skin Concerns Can axion Microneedling Treat?

One of the advantages of axion microneedling is that we can adapt the treatment according to what we are trying to improve.

We can use axion for concerns including:

• Uneven skin texture
• Reduced firmness
• Fine lines and wrinkles
• Acne marks and scars
• Uneven skin tone
• Enlarged pores

Treatment can be performed on the face, neck, décolletage, hands and scalp, as well as selected areas of the body.

Rather than having one setting for everyone, axion allows us to adjust the speed, needle depth, amount of solution delivered and intensity of the red LED light.

There are also three different treatment heads:

• H18: For more intensive treatment of concerns such as pronounced lines, deeper wrinkles and acne scars.
• H42: For moderate stimulation when treating concerns such as uneven texture, tone and enlarged pores.
• Nano-HR: For a gentler approach on sensitive skin, delicate areas or when preparing the skin before other aesthetic procedures.

More intensive microneedling is not automatically better. If you have relatively mild changes in texture, for example, you may need a very different approach from someone with more established acne scarring.

We therefore assess the condition and severity of the concern first, then adjust the treatment accordingly. The ability to change the head and treatment settings gives us more scope to tailor what we are doing rather than relying on the same microneedling protocol for every patient.

What Does the Red LED Light Do During axion Microneedling?

One of the differences with axion is that 630 nm red LED light is built directly into the device, so it works at the same time as the microneedling treatment.

The red LED is used to support the skin’s natural repair processes and help reduce inflammation.

During treatment, three things are therefore happening together: microneedling creates the controlled microchannels, the chosen professional solution is dispensed and the red LED light supports the skin’s response.

It is this combination that makes axion different from a more conventional microneedling treatment. We are not adding LED as an entirely separate stage afterwards. It forms part of the treatment itself.

Can Microneedling Be Used for Hair Loss?

One of the areas we can treat with axion is the scalp, where the device can be combined with c.prof 231 dutexome solution as part of a targeted hair-loss protocol.

The solution contains dutasteride 0.05%, aloe vera exosomes, copper tripeptide-1 and a vitamin B complex including biotin, dexpanthenol and pyridoxine.

It has been developed to help control hair loss by supporting the hair cycle, inhibiting the formation of DHT, reducing the miniaturisation of hair follicles and supporting microcirculation and nutrient supply to the follicle.

The protocol can be considered for different types of hair loss, including:

• Hair loss associated with hormonal factors in men and women
• Progressive hair loss during menopause
• Seasonal or nutritionally associated hair loss
• Reactive hair loss following the postpartum period or after breastfeeding has ended

During treatment, axion creates controlled microchannels in the scalp while simultaneously dispensing the c.prof 231 solution.

This is a very different use of the technology from treating facial skin. When we are treating the scalp, our objective is not to improve fine lines, pores or texture. The treatment settings and professional solution are selected specifically for the hair-loss protocol.

What Does the axion Hair Loss Treatment Involve?

At Enhance Clinispa, treatment starts with an assessment of the scalp and hair to establish whether the protocol is appropriate for you.

Once the scalp has been prepared, the axion device is passed across the treatment area while simultaneously dispensing c.prof 231 dutexome solution. The treatment itself takes approximately 15 minutes.

Hair loss is not approached as a one-off treatment. The protocol involves seven clinic sessions over six months, followed by a maintenance treatment every three months. We also recommend a Mesoestetic tricology home routine alongside the professional treatment.

This is important when we discuss the treatment with patients. The aim is not to have one microneedling session and expect an immediate change. The protocol is designed to work progressively, with treatment taking place over several months and maintenance forming part of the longer-term approach.

What Happens After axion Microneedling?

What happens after treatment depends on whether we have treated the skin or the scalp.

Following axion microneedling on the skin, we focus on soothing, repairing and protecting the treated area. Appropriate post-treatment skincare will be recommended according to your skin and the area treated, with particular emphasis on protecting the skin while it recovers.

Scalp treatment with c.prof 231 has different aftercare. We advise patients to avoid showering, saunas and the gym for 24 hours following treatment. The prescribed home programme can then begin.

How Long Does an axion Microneedling Course Take?

There is no single treatment schedule for every axion patient because the course depends on the area and concern being treated.

For the specific c.prof 231 hair-loss protocol, treatment takes place over six months, with seven clinic sessions during this period before moving to maintenance treatments every three months.

Can axion Be Used on the Body as Well as the Face?

Yes. axion can be used on the face, neck, décolletage, hands and scalp, as well as areas of the body including the arms, legs, abdomen and flanks.

The area being treated will influence how we use the device and the treatment settings selected.

Does axion Use the Same Microneedling Head for Everyone?

No. We can choose between the H18, H42 and Nano-HR heads according to the treatment objective.

This allows us to vary the level of stimulation rather than treating every patient in exactly the same way. The head we choose will depend on factors such as the treatment area, the concern and how intensive the treatment needs to be.

Is c.prof 231 Suitable During Pregnancy?

No. c.prof 231 is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. It is also not recommended for women who may be pregnant, or for men and women who would like to have a baby within the following six months.

This restriction applies specifically to the c.prof 231 scalp protocol, which is why suitability needs to be established before beginning a course of treatment.
