Nowadays, most of us are familiar with injectable lip fillers and know how this treatment is great for adding additional volume and fullness to the lips. Both female and male patients visit us at Enhance Clinispa in Bolton to have occasional lip filler treatments. Like most medically lead aesthetics clinics, we always aim to achieve natural looking results for our patients.

We do this by tailoring our lip filler treatment to respect the features of each individual patient’s face. We take into account the symmetry of the lips and the anatomy of the face before injecting. Patients have different reasons for wanting to have lip filler treatments. It is not always about just wanting fuller looking lips. Fillers can be used to add balance, where for example one lip is significantly smaller than the other. They can be used to smooth and hydrate dry or wrinkled lips, giving them a more youthful appearance; and they can of course be used to add a bit more volume and to make the mouth look more voluptuous.

How to avoid duck lips with fillers

Most of us will have seen examples of poorly administered lip fillers. If too much filler is injected into the lips this often gives a look that is referred to as a ‘trout pout’ or ‘duck lips’. The filler spills out from the lips and migrates beyond the vermillion border, (aka the lip line). This type of lip filler looks completely unnatural since they don’t mimic the look of normal lips. Patients with too much lip filler may find that the side view of their top lip resembles the look of a ski slope shape.

Can lip fillers look natural?

At Enhance Clinispa we take pride in offering safe and effective lip filler treatments that take our patients’ features into account. We are a medical aesthetics clinic and work ethically to provide patients with treatment that enhances their looks rather than making them look fake or unnatural.

If patients have lip fillers that they are not happy with for any reason, we can help rectify this problem. If your lips have been overfilled or if you are not happy with your lip injections for any other reason, we are able to dissolve lip fillers to help you achieve your desired look.

What does lip filler treatment feel like?

Many patients are concerned that lip fillers may hurt. The lips are one of the areas that can feel more uncomfortable to inject because the skin on the lips is more sensitive than other areas of the face. We make lip injections as pain free as possible by offering a topical lip anaesthetic cream to patients before we begin their treatment. For patients who want to feel complete numbness we also offer a dental block injection. Many lip fillers also have lidocaine in their ingredients, meaning that as we begin to inject the lips numb even further, and this makes the treatment even more comfortable.

After the treatment your lips will feel numb while the anaesthetic slowly wears off. Once the anaesthetic has subsided your lips may look and feel swollen and sometimes patients may bruise a little. Over the counter painkillers and a cool pack can be used to soothe the lips after treatment. Some patients may panic when they see the swelling and think that their lips look too big or have been over injected, however, as the lips heal from the treatment the swelling does go down. In many cases once the lips have fully healed and the patient can see the final results, they often like to return and have a small top up treatment. At Enhance Clinispa we offer a free review and top up 2 weeks after your initial lip filler appointment to compensate for the swelling after the first injections.
