What is Co2 laser resurfacing?

Co2 lasers use carbon dioxide gas to produce a beam of energy of a specific wavelength that targets water in the skin. This water is rapidly heated and this causes channels of tissue to be destroyed down to a precise depth in the skin. The laser induced thermal injury stimulates your body’s natural healing response to make more collagen. Collagen is what makes skin look supple, smooth, tight and firm. Is there any downtime after Co2 laser treatment?

After treatment with a Co2 ablative laser you will require some downtime while your skin heals. There will be a few days of swelling and you won’t be able to wear makeup for at least seven days after treatment. Your skin will look red and then scabby  so you might not want to take part in your regular daily routine. 

Although there is quite a bit of down time required after a Co2 laser treatment, most patients feel it is worth it for the amazing results that they get once the skin has healed.

What results can I expect to see from Co2 laser treatment?

After seven days when your skin has had a chance to heal you will notice that your skin feels softer, has a better texture and that you have less lines and wrinkles. However, this is only phase one of the amazing results you can expect to see.

The stimulating of new collagen that has been started by the C02 laser treatment takes a while to show the full results. Around 3  months after your initial treatment you will begin to really see the results of the new collagen that your body has produced.
